Orange offer Sim only plans that are pay as you go, 30 day contracts and annual Sim only contracts. If you want a basic package and wish to pay for your phone calls as you use the phone then the aptly named pay as you go is for you. If you wish to buy a bundle of class, texts and internet access then monthly Sim only contracts are for you. The annual Sim only contracts are better value but you are committed to an annual contract.
Orange have some rather strange branding. They call their Sim only packages: Dolphin, Canary and Racoon. Their pay as you go Sim only packs are: Monkey, Dolphin, Canary, Racoon and Camel. Each package provides a different group of services and call plans. Some of them even offer unlimited music downloads and international calling.
Orange are famous for offering Orange Wednesday where you can get two film tickets for the price of one. They also have an extensive music library that some customers have access to.
Orange launched into the United Kingdom in April 1994, following a very unusual TV campaign where they promised that “The future would be bright with Orange”. No indication of the type of company Orange would be was given. The adverts were meant to intrigue, but the campaign was not entirely successful. Their web site states “A vision for a brighter future, where people can communicate wherever, whenever and however they wish.” This vision and the brightness, plus the slight quirkiness of advertising and product naming seem to still be there for all to see.
Orange is the brand name for France Telecom, a name that sites better with the proud people of the United Kingdom. Orange is the fifth largest telecom operator in the world with over 189 million customers as at 2009.
In April 2009 the Orange UK broadband was upgraded to 3.5G and signal coverage was increased. This upgrade greatly benefited those who use 3G phones and the internet options.
Orange has also spent some time improving its customer satisfaction ratings and network reliability and coverage and this was recognised in a recent YouGov report.
“Being awarded the best mobile broadband network by our customers across the UK is a real honour. We have taken significant work for both voice and data, and are so glad that our customers are really starting to see the benefit”, said Paul Tollet, vice president, Orange Business.
Orange was the last of the big four mobile providers to launch in April 1984. At this time the mobile market was expensive and confusing. Frequently customers had to sign on for lengthy contracts and there were no Sim only deals. Orange was the first company to launch per second billing which decreased customer costs quite considerably and made billing easier to understand.
Orange began building a strong marketing identity with a service that was uncluttered, easy to understand and free of jargon and complicated pricing plans. They introduced Talk Plans that offered real value for money. Caller ID and free itemise billing were all their innovations. They changed customers’ views about mobile phone communications and started to make them more customer friendly.
In July 1997, they reached the 1 million customer milestone and have continued to expand and improve. If you are seeking an innovative company that is striving to improve its customer service then an Orange Sim only deal is for you.
