With a Sim only plan you use your existing phone or one of the great new Sim free mobile phones you can buy at the moment. You choose a Sim only plan that meets your needs and then save a bundle!
Er no! Just like the 24 monthly contracts you get your choice of talk time, text bundles, photo messaging and even internet connection. BUT with one BIG difference – you are not committed to a lengthy agreement. Sim only plans only ask you to commit to a 30 day contract – yes I did say day. In exchange for one fee, that can be as low as £10 you get connected to a mobile network of your choice and your chosen bundle of services. So you get the same as with a controlling pay monthly contract – but you are not tied down. You can move as many times as you want AND keep your same phone number. Just call up and arrange the transfer, slip in a new Sim card and you are off! Ready to laugh at those who are still committed to paying for an aging mobile phone and a service bundle that no longer suits them.
Well here is a secret that the mobile phone suppliers try to keep from people. The typical mobile phone is always quoted as being very expensive whenever they try and sell you an insurance policy. Really the big mobile phone providers never pay anywhere near that price. They buy them in the thousands – would you pay a high price when buying that number? The mobile phone retailers then take this inflated price, adding on an expensive loan for you to purchase the mobile phone over 24 months. Then they take this figure and divide it by 24. This is part of the monthly contract price for a pay monthly contract. Next they add on a hefty commission fee for that salesperson to show you the phone range and which buttons to press. On top of that goes a commission to the mobile network provider to connect the phone – someone has to pay for that fancy shop – (phew almost there!), next there is the call bundle that you need and last of all any free gift that they may be offering to entice you to sign up for this expensive bundle. No wonder monthly contract plus phone plans are so expensive!
With Sim only plans you are only paying for a connection charge and a little bit of profit for the supplier. No loans, no fancy shops either – most Sim only plans can be bought over the internet. Have a look at our plans here.
No – easy as pie. All the networks allow you to pay by direct debit and as long as your payment clears, you stay connected. When you want to move on, just cancel you direct debit – as easy as that. An added bonus is that as there is no contract there is no credit check!
