Virgin mobile, part of the Virgin empire offer pay as you go Sim only deals as well as pay monthly Sim only deals. Their pay monthly Sim only deals are for 30 days or twelve months. Unlike some of the other mobile providers, they do not currently offer international calls or free landline calls on their Sim only deals. They offer web access but not full internet access on their Sim only deals.
The simplicity of their deals is perhaps more a result of their newness to the market and the fact that they buy their mobile communication network access from the other providers. In fact, they sell simplicity as one of their features. So not a lot more from Virgin mobile communications.
Virgin Sim only phones are particularly popular with travellers. The Virgin brand coupled with the simplicity of the tariffs and the ease of finding a new Sim card or pay as you go service make it easy for a traveller to pick up a phone to use for a short while.
In the USA where Sim only deals are not so popular, the Virgin Sim only cards are available in most of the major electronic retail stores and all of the major ones.
Virgin Mobile is a very new company, it was launched in 1999 as a private joint venture with the now T-Mobile. The leased network bandwidth from T-Mobile and thus, as a feature of many Virgin companies, kept its working costs very low. The company reached profitable levels in 2003 after a successful Christmas period.
In December 2005, Virgin Mobile began talks with NTL:Telewest regarding a sale. This would create a media company offering TV, broadband, mobile phones and fixed line phones. NTL:Telewest would then use the Virgin brand. On 4th July 2006, Virgin was acquired and NTL:Telewest rebranded under the Virgin Media name on 8 February 2007.
Virgin Mobile is a brand used by many mobile phone service providers based in the United Kingdom and operating in Australia, Canada, France, India, Qatar, South Africa and the United States. It does not have its own networks but, just as in the United Kingdom, it uses purchases bandwidth from other mobile communications providers.
Sim only services are now very common in the United Kingdom but not in the United States of America. Virgin does however provide for the majority of the USA Sim only services.
In June 2009, Virgin Mobile started a pay-as-you go mobile data program called “Broadband2Go” in the United States, using Novatel Wireless hardware, and available exclusively through the Best Buy chain of stores originally, but now available at other retailers including RadioShack and The Source (in Canada). It uses a small USB modem for internet connectivity. The United Kingdom has a similar service using the T-Mobile communications backbone.
If you want a great brand, simple, easy to understand tariffs and good prices then Virgin Sim only deals are for you.
