Vodafone Sim only deals are varied and interesting. You can have a pay as you go deal, monthly or yearly contract and they offer services such as internet connection, large bundles of text messages, unlimited landline calls and even BT Openzone connection. They sometimes offer international calling.
Not a lot of people realise that Vodafone was actually the first mobile communications company to become established within the United Kingdom. It beat the mighty British Telecom in a David and Goliath race.
Vodafone made the first mobile call in the UK at a few minutes past midnight on 1 January 1985. This historic call was made by Ernie Wise to the small Vodafone office situated behind a curry house in a not too salubrious part of London. Within fifteen years, Vodafone had the largest company in Europe and was the largest of its kind anywhere in the world. Vodafone was also credited with introducing the cellular mobile phone system to the UK. It achieved this using an innovative software programme that mapped mobile phone coverage. This provided better coverage than that provided by British Telecom, who relied on placing aerials on top of their buildings that did not provide the needed density is some buy areas.
By the year 2000, almost every second UK citizen had a mobile phone and a third of them were connected to the Vodafone communications network. This same year the Vodafone Group was the largest mobile telecommunications company and one of the top ten companies, by market capitalization, in the world. By the year 2006, Vodafone had over 10 million 3G customers. So buying from Vodafone is perfectly safe, millions have done it beforehand.
Vodafone has a significant presence in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia, Australia and the United States. Known as Vodafone everywhere except the USA, where it is known as Verizon.
As at 31st March 2010, the Vodafone group had 341 million customers, both business and personal. This enormous figure does not include its pager customers such as hospitals and personal pager holders.
During the 1990’s Vodafone was a very busy company in the United Kingdom and Europe. In 1996, it acquired two thirds of TalkLand, making it the one hundred percent owner. It also purchased the 181 store chain, Peoples Phone in 1996 in a defensive move to protect its overwhelmingly Vodafone customers. In a similar move, it purchased eighty percent of Astec Communications, again making it a one hundred percent owner. This significantly increased Vodafone’s high street presence and increased its company’s share of UK mobile phone customers.
In 1997, it introduced its new speech mark logo and revamped its marketing to match the new modern image.
Sadly, in the last few years, whilst it grew dramatically in Europe, Vodafone Sim Only is currently only the third largest mobile phone provider in the UK. A merger between Orange and T-Mobile and the growth of O2 coupled with some lack lustre management causing this slip. Nether the less Vodafone still remains a massive force in the world and is only beaten in the number of subscribers by China Mobile, who surely has a head start!
